According to prosecutors, a 17-year-old girl in Santa Ana was afraid she was going to lose her boyfriend, so she lied to him and told him she was pregnant. Nine months later, she needed a baby to keep up the lie... so, allegedly, she stole her roommate's.

As the Orange County Register reports, Gladys Remigio is being tried as an adult for hiring two gang members to kidnap her roommate's 15-day-old baby girl.

According to the roommate, who is identified as "Norma," co-defendants Steven David Quirino, 20, and Robert Henry Rodriguez, 19, firearms in hand, entered the house the roommates shared. Norma told officials that the gang members ordered her to another room, and Remigio took the newborn. After the gang members fled, Norma was able to get her baby back.

All three defendants face multiple felonies. The Orange County District Attorney reports that Remigio, Quirino and Rodriguez face up to life in prison, if convicted on all charges.
