Jets Postgame Assault: Did One Assailant or 7 Jump James Mohr?

By Nicholas Stix

On Wednesday afternoon, three days after the brutal attack on Jets fan James Mohr in the MetLife Stadium parking lot following the Jets’ 37-10 rout of the Kansas City Chiefs, the media were still telling two wildly divergent tales about the attack.

The original story was that Mohr was attacked by at least seven Chiefs fans who said, among other things, that New York deserved to be attacked on 911. As of Wednesday afternoon, the New York Post and FoxSports, both of which belong to Rupert Murdoch’s NewsCorp, were sticking to that story. Meanwhile, in an AP report published three minutes later, the New Jersey State Police was insisting that a lone attacker, Merle Lee, had sucker punched Mohr. It was not reported how many times the assailant or assailants hit Mohr.

Initially, Mohr was in intensive care, though his status has since been upgraded.

While much information has been published and broadcast about the victim, the only information the media have so far provided the public about the alleged attacker, who was arrested immediately after the attack, is that he lives in Newton, N.J.
